**A SHORT STROLL** of just 2 miles around the centre of Windsor. From the Home Park we walk through the town and Guildhall Island onto the Long Walk, then through the lower town towards Clewer and the river. Here we visit the Windsor & Eton brewery for refreshments/lunch. After we return via the river to the Home Park

**WINDSOR** is Saxon in origin and was first known as ‘Windlass Oran’ meaning ‘bank with a windlass’. Established as a strategic lookout post over the river, the Normans built a wooden castle here, rebuilt it in stone in the 12th century and strengthened it the 13th century. Windsor then gradually grew as a garrison settlement but only developed as town from the 17th century.

**THE WINDSOR AND ETON BREWERY** is a small, but growing craft brewery established in 2010. In 2016 the brewery opened a shop and tap room. They usually have 6 cask and 4 keg beers on tap, 4 from their core range and 2 seasonal/specials. They offer a tasting tray of 3 third pints of any of their beers for £3.50 (Recommended). You can view the brewery from the bar and there are regular tours for £10. In recent years it has expanded considerably

**THE RIVER PROMENADE** was created in the 1890s. It was purchased by public subscription in 1910 and is now NT. During the 1800s the area below the castle walls was considered a slum and it was later cleared as it spoilt the view from the castle.
