La Barge Mountain
Details
La Barge Mountain, 5077 feet, is a lesser known peak in the middle of the Superstitions. I enjoy this bushwhack (yes, we will be bushwhacking some) as it holds great views of the Superstitions, Four Peaks and Picketpost. Plus, we will hit the unique Triangle Arch. Approximately 9.5 miles, with 2/3 of it on trail and the last third is bush whacking. Bush growth is knee height but there will be catclaw so pants are recommended :). AEG 2800 ft.
Good amount of parking at Woodbury TH which is where we start. We will take the JF trail up roughly 3.5 miles, which will intersect with Rogers Canyon trail. We will then bushwhack up to the summit, its a moderate grade and at this time we will see lots of unique boulder formations. This is where I find my time scouting out and adding extra miles :) Triangle Arch is on the way to the summit and a great photo op. Summit is large and grassy and scenic. We will follow the same route back.
The ascent on JF trail is not too steep but take poles if that is what you are comfortable with.
I consider this moderate to hard as the 2800 ft ascent is in a 2 mile stretch.
I will move this if weather is inclement.
Boots on ground at 7 am. Queen Valley Road is graded but AWD is best. 4WD is not necessary to Woodbury TH parking lot.
If you want to arrange a carpool, you can meet up at Bashas at 5311 S Superstition Mtn Dr, Gold Canyon, AZ 85118.
