FREE! Group Walk at Urban Park in Los Alamos at 1:30 pm Mountain Time!

Details

Please join us for this FREE GROUP WALK at Urban Park in Los Alamos at LATE MORNING TIME of 11:30 am on Friday!

THIS IS NOT A TRAINING CLASS! Your dog should be able to walk comfortably on a leash without losing his mind in the presence of other dogs at a busy park before you come. If you need instruction on loose leash walking, or coaching for desensitization and counter-conditioning leash reactivity, please contact Mary voice/text at: 916-712-5688.

We promote desired behaviors using the Least Inhibitive Functionally Effective (LIFE) model. We actively advocate for choice-based, fear-free training and will not allow the use of any techniques, tools, or equipment whose purpose and/or intent is to interrupt or punish behavior by using fear, force, intimidation or pain (e.g., shock, prong, pinch, leash corrections, alpha-rolling, yelling, etc.).

Wear comfy, waterproof shoes and plan to move!

Please remember our rules:
- DOGS WILL NOT GREET DURING THE WALK. Please don't let your dog greet other dogs or people during the walk. If you'd like to work on appropriate greeting, please contact me as I am an AKC CGC & Therapy dog trainer and can help with this at another time.
- Walk with sufficient space from other handlers to set your dog up for success - at least "safe 6" is suggested.
- We will start together and walk the same direction. We will mosey along at a gentle pace so that dogs can enjoy sniffing and use this behavior to emotionally regulate. If you arrive late, catch us up slowly & calmly to help your team and ours adjust.
- Dogs that need space may parallel walk or station in the center of the park to observe and use the "doggy parade" to appropriately desensitize (DS) and counter-condition (CC) to help transform a new conditioned emotional response (CER).
- Carry your gear with you such as water, bowl, poop bags, and reinforcement.
- Use only flat collars, appropriately adjusted martingale collars (non-choke function), or preferably a properly fitting harness.
-If you are a student of Amy Leyva and you have discussed whether this walk is right for your team, you may attend with other equipment.
- Use only 6-12 foot leash of any material; no retractable leashes or slip leads.
- Picking up dog waste is non-negotiable. You have to. We will all wait for your dog to potty. It is part of the socialization process. Processing activity while waiting is part of our relaxation protocol.

Sometimes people's dogs can be imperfect. Yours too. We do not tolerate trash talking other attendees or their dogs. If you have an issue, talk to me privately.

Questions? Use the event communication or text at 916-712-5688.
