What we’re about

*** PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ ALL, AND I DO MEAN ALL OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION BEFORE JOINING THIS GROUP ***

If you would rather watch a quick nine-minute video instead of reading, click HERE.

Otherwise, keep reading.

This Meetup group has been created for a very specific reason and before joining, you need to make sure that you are agreeing to all of the following. If you choose to join this group, that will be taken as consent to the following.

By the way, before you send me a message, I know that the name of the group is quite long. I wanted to make sure that people understood why the group exists as well as making sure you understand we are very serious about having fun. In case, you can't read the name on the picture, the full title is "Totally Awesome Perth Singles Who ARE Leaving The House And Are Serious About Having Fun While Meeting Others And Maybe Find Themselves A Partner Who Can Love Them The Way They Want To Be Loved"

Good Hey?

Anyway. There are many challenges in life and creating strong, meaningful, worthwhile connections with people seems to be one of the bigger challenges, especially as we age. Even though I just implied about our members being more mature, as long as you are a person who can treat others with respect and decency, you are welcome in this group.

Creating and building a connection with anyone takes courage, vulnerability, effort, attention, and a willingness to 'put yourself out there'. Yes, it can be scary, terrifying and all the rest of the so-called negative emotions, however, we want to make sure you get past that. We can all be scared at various times, however, if we are all scared, doesn't that make it easier if we are all in the same boat?

This group will have regular events, some free, some which are ticketed and a fee is required. This will either be an opportunity to develop social skills, learn how to be vulnerable, and connect with people and some events will be simply to connect with fellow members. We will mix it up and make it clear which are which. The fees won't be much by the way. Most events are mixed age, however, there will be events that are aimed at specific age brackets, so all are welcome

Events will be hosted by the administrator of this group (Wayne Brown), other administrators as well as our wonderful members. You see, in addition to the group events, we will be encouraging our members to host events where they can have a BBQ at their house, catch up with fellow members at pubs, see movies, art exhibitions, slam poetry, whatever you fancy, it's your group.

The whole point of the group is to be involved and work toward us all having people whose company we not only enjoy, we also are actively seeking it out. We are also working toward having everyone support and encourage each other.

This is where the catch comes in. I have had groups where the majority of people join and either never attend an event or rarely attend for whatever reason. This group will be different. We really want you to be active and make meaningful connections with your fellow members, therefore, if you have not been active or attended an event in three months, you will be removed from the group. We do this because we want you to make connections, get out of the house and build up your social and support network and have a life. The reason you will be removed, is that, if you can't be bothered to make an effort, we don't see why you should be taking up space in the group where people ARE making an effort. That way, we know that everyone in the group gives a crap and will make an effort. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

If you have read this far, well done. Our vision is to have a group where everyone is involved, everyone makes an effort and everyone benefits from a social and support network that benefits everyone.

There are only a few criterion to joining this group.

  • Make sure to make an effort to attend at least one event per quarter. This is your life you are putting the effort into remember. It all depends on you actually doing something.
  • Treat everyone with decency and respect and make sure to get to know as many people as you can. The larger, stronger, and higher the quality of your network, the better your quality of life.
  • Even though everyone (except Wayne) is single, we are not all actively looking for a partner. We are also looking for friends, support, encouragement, connection and the ocassional shoulder. Please make sure to check where people are at in this regard and avoid assuming
  • If you RSVP to an event, and you don't attend and haven't bothered to update your status, you get flagged. If you do this three times, you are out. This is especially important if there is a waitlist, because if you RSVP and don't turn up, then someone on the waitlist misses out because you can't be bothered. Not respectful. Not good!

I will also be sending out an email once per month to keep you updated on what events are coming up in the future so you can keep an eye out. I'll give you feedback on events that we have had as well as news, updates, etc.

You are also free to contact anyone within the group to catch up, even with events outside of Meetup. The only condition is that you treat the other person / people with respect and make clear any intentions you have prior to catching up. We don't want any awkward mixed messages occurring and I don't want to have to kick you out of the group, so play nice.

We have created a poll for the group to find out what people would like to take part in. If you want to have a say in the events that we host, then make sure to fill it out by clicking HERE so we can organise and host accordingly.

Finally, feel free to host an event (It's actually really easy, just ask us how) and make sure to get involved because you only get out what you put in, so make sure to put in lots of effort, because we want you to get lots out of the group.
