Phoenix Sonoran Preserve North Hike

Join us for a morning hike through the northern section of the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve. The hike is rated INTERMEDIATE because of the distance and some uphill climbs. http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/8/6/7/600_449530343.jpeg

This is the host's first scheduled hike of the season. So we will tread lightly on this initial venture, traveling at a steady pace, but taking several short breaks along the way.

We'll start out on the Sidewinder trail and take it until we meet up with the Ocotillo Trail which will circle back to the parking area. This is a very pretty hike on mostly soft trails through the preserve. We will have a couple of miles where we climb steadily but there are no steep climbs. We will maintain a moderate pace with stops at trail crossings. Hiking boots are recommended. Also be sure to wear sunscreen, a hat, and appropriate clothing for the weather. Bring plenty of water (at least 2 liters) and please be advised that you participate in this activity at your own risk.

DIRECTIONS: From I-17 exit on Carefree Highway East and proceed about 3 miles, the entrance is at the traffic light for 7th Avenue. Coming from the East, take Carefree highway to 7th Ave, turn left at the light into the entrance.
