Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park Fall Fest - The Wild Side

It normally takes nearly two hours to drive to the fab hikes on the west side of RMNP, but they'll be 20 minutes out the door from our fabby 6-bedroom, eight-bed mansion on the shores of Shadow Mountain Lake, about two miles from the town of Grand Lake and 10 from the park entrance. The aspen will be just past prime, but still in full glory. We'll hike to Timber Lake (10 miles, 2400 ft.), Lake of the Clouds (14 miles, 2900 ft.), drive up Trail Ridge Road, and head after each outing back to our mansion and make dinner, do take-out, or dine in town, then enjoy hot-tub at the mansion. Note: We will not have timed-reservation entries unless I snag them in September, so we will need to enter the park before 9 am each day. Oh, and we'll camp the first nite with campfire and endure the overnight cold, to better appreciate the mansion warmth the next three nights.

ITINERARY
Thursday Oct 3 - Drive 2 hours to Green Ridge Campground on Shadow Mountain Lake two miles from town of Grand Lake, where Loop A is still open on first-come, first-serve basis, and snag double-site R17. Build campfire. Expect a cold night!
Friday Oct 4 - Hike in RMNP, and then retire to mansion on Shadow Mountain Reservoir.
Saturday Oct. 5 - Hike in RMNP, then back to the mansion.
Sunday Oct. 6 - Hike or drive up Trail Ridge Road, then back to the mansion for final night.
Monday Oct 7 - sleep-in, breakfast in town, play or hike, then drive home.
Mansion fees (three nights combined):
$370 for solo bedroom
$320 for shared bedroom (King with queen overhead)
$280 - BYOB air mattress on the TV room floor.
Note: You may head home Sunday if you need to be back to work Monday, but you will be charged for a 3-night stay.
