Name: Easy 5-7 Mile Walk by a River: Lower Guadalupe

Let us show our support for nature. Walk by the Guadalupe river, a major migratory flyway for birds; Visit a life-sized mammoth sculpture marking the spot where the remains of a Columbian mammoth, named Lupe, were discovered in 2005; And discover an alternate route to the airport. This is an approximately 6 mile (round trip), substantially level walk with \~100 feet of elevation gain. This is a hope it shines -- but we will walk even if it rains -- event.

Time, and interest permitting, a nearby restaurant may be visited at the end of the hike after returning to the starting location.

No rest rooms at start. Restroom at \~2 miles, and end of hike. Possibility at 4.5 mile mark by extending the hike a mile.

**Parking**

This is a public transit accommodating location. The VTA light rail stations of Bonaventura, and Component are within a 0.5 mile of the Mammoth sculpture, which we will be visiting first. Alternatively you can park your cars in the parking lot for 3170 De La Cruz Blvd #131, Santa Clara, CA 95054, where will meet outside iGrill Indian Cuisine Banquet Hall.

**Carpool**

Drivers, please share your starting address, time and rideshare expectations. Riders, please bring a change of shoes and bags as we could be walking on gravel, and packed soil at times.

**What to Bring/Event Rules**

* Bring an umbrella or raincoat if you think it might rain, or it rains.
* Bring at least 1 liter of water
* Bring bug spray
* Bring a light snack if you choose to skip breakfast.
* If you choose to bring a dog or a pet, please make sure they are friendly. (Note: Most hikes do not allow dogs. An exception is being made here)
* Bring a change of shoes(bags) if you are carpooling.
