Ship Breaking Yard Atelier | Weekend in Chattogram, Bangladesh

Details

Bangladesh might be a poor and overcrowded country from first look at it, but in fact it holds many secrets not available for the mainstream tourists. One of them is ship breaking industry, having a really bad press in recent years and so a bit reluctant to let public hang around anywhere nearby. Would you be a fan of VLCCs, Panamax or simply Corvettes - their cemetery is an incredible sight. Be aware - those hulls are really giant! You ll be able to see clearly about 30 monster ships carcasses all in various stages of decay. But hang on! Thats just the beginning of our adventurous weekend...

The traditional markets are a great fun too!! With its vibrant and colorful atmosphere you ll be able to choose the cauliflower of your best choice. The cacophony of sensual assaults will hammer our way into wooden rowboats across the ship-laden river and further into overwhelming to all sushi lovers fish harbour and market.

Another important industry to Bangladesh economy is salt harvesting. We will have a chance to take a glimpse on production insides from the fields to the packing.

After all, lets do not forget that Chattogram is a birth place of our fancy clothes that find their way to fill the shopping malls around the world. Would it be jeans, polos, shoes or suits chances are high they have been made in here. The last point of our weekend will be such overcrowded garment factory.

This trip is far from mainstream routes and is dedicated to the off beaten track connoisseurs, particularly photographers! So if you find yourself one of them, it’s a time to format SD card, charge the batteries and clean the lenses…
