Pilot is close and offers numerous climbs of varying difficulty, so there is something to challenge everyone. Pilot faces due south so it warms up nicely when the sun is out, even in the fall and winter, and dries quickly after rain and the wind is usually blocked out at the base of the climbs.

Participants are free to leave as their schedule and energy dictates, you're also welcome to stay as long as you like.

The hike to the climbing areas is short and not too strenuous. Most of the climbs can be top roped, so it is a beginner friendly place to climb. There are also some very beautiful views.

New members who wish to belay will need to see the organizer for a belay test before doing so. All participants should have their own harness and climbing shoes. If you have a climbing rope, bring it.

Note: all gear used is the personal property of individual members so treat it kindly. I ask that each individual who is not bringing a rope to bring $3 in singles. These monies will be shared in equal parts with those individuals who ropes are used during the Meet Up, as compensation for wear and tear.

Bring lunch, snacks, water (two+ quarts is a conservative amount in the summer) a hat. Bring layers appropriate to the predicted temps, we might be shade or we might be in the sun. A day pack is handy. Wear shoes with good traction and rain gear just in case if there are rain chances. Putting a pair of sandals or flip-flops in the pack as well is not a bad idea; they're handy to wear between climbs, quicker than taking shoes on and off. Participants should not wear any rings, hoop earrings or necklaces in the interest of safety, just leave them at home. Watches will get scraped up.

About me, your organizer, I have been climbing for eighteen years and have led 150+ climbing Meet Ups and am very familiar with the routes at Pilot. I am conservative in my approach to rigging and anchors. I am expert climber (I lead 5.11's sport and climb trad as well.) and a careful student of the many detailed aspects of the rigging involved.

Directions: Pilot Mountain is right off Hwy 52, at exit 131. Drive up to the summit parking lot. We meet in the far end (with respect to the entrance) of the summit parking lot by the large, southern facing, fenced overlook. If you get there early please wait here so that other members can see you and know that they're in the right place.

Please note in the interest of adequate supervision, safety and informed consent/liability all participants should sign up, there are no guest spots for this Meet Up. If there is somebody you know who would like to join you ask them to join and RSVP as well.
