The Friday after Thanksgiving has become a traditional outing for this group. It started as our 'saving grace' from Black Friday shopping meltdowns & historically would afford those of us who cringe at merch horror stories the chance to get far, far away from the madness AND the chance to correct some of that indulgent eating from the previous day! If any of the above describes you, join us with a healthy 'alternative', that being a 9–10-mile hiking loop. We'll meet at the Backpack parking lot (past the lower parking area), travel up the MST, intersect with the trail moving to Wolf Rock & transition to Blackjack Ridge. At that point, it's a group choice to either continue down Blackjack to the historical village area & use the Stone Mtn loop trail until it again intersects with the Wolf Rock trail, winds back up the mountain & heads back down the MST OR to go in the opposite direction, visiting the waterfall, taking the stairs back up & over the mountain, coming down & then back up to Wolf Rock & back down the MST. A break for snacks and/or shared leftovers will happen at some point! If you've had something that you didn't like for your holiday or you've had too much of a good thing & need it out of the house, bring it along. There's always someone that can help you out. Sharing is caring! This is also a dog-friendly hike for leashed dogs. While the hike as always depends on the weather, we typically have excellent seasonal temps & skies! NOTE: Last year I was unable to attend, having just had spinal fusion surgery but this year, I have every intention of completing most or all of the route.
