NetHack: a Deep Dive into Unix Roguelikes and Open Source
Summary :
This week we have a lighthearted deep dive on NetHack, a Unix Roguelike from 1987. We’re going to go through its history, how gameplay works, the fundamental computer science principles behind it, and some of the antics of hacking on an open source project.
Author Bio:
Maryam Abkar Is an IT Specialist working for the US Forest Service and currently part of the TriLUG Steering Committee. She recently graduated from North Carolina State University and is a former member of their cybersecurity club HackPack and their University LUG.
Location: We will be meeting at North Carolina College of Textiles room 2207 at 1020 Main Campus Drive, Raleigh NC, 27606. There is an underground parking deck next to the College at the Monteith Engineering Parking Deck. Parking is free after 5 PM.
