What we’re about
Consumption of pornography online is probably the most pervasive and damaging drug in our society. It strips men of their masculinity and creative energy. It warps the brain's natural reward mechanisms. It damages relationships, and dehumanizes women and men as objects to be consumed. It eats away at our souls, collectively and individually.
This group is for men who have come to realize these things, and understand that complete abstinence is the only way to take full responsibility and be mentally and spiritually healthy, to become a real man.
Porn use - and even the consumption of tamer "spicy content" online - is an incredibly strong addiction, and getting free from it is a journey. Most of us have been affected by many years of regular habits and warped messaging from media and society normalizing degeneracy, telling us it's all hunky dory and perfectly healthy.
While an abstinence mindset might typically be associated with religious conviction, this group isn't meant to be explicitly Christian or "faith based".* But folks are welcome to bring to the table whatever spiritual beliefs that help them find strength and work through healing and recovery.
The purpose of this group is to meet in person and support each other in our common goal of bettering ourselves by conquering an insidious addiction, providing accountability and a safe and non-judgmental space to share struggles and successes.
This is a little bit experimental, as I understand it might be kind of weird to have such a group in your membership list. Maybe this is for a special kind of man, who can step up and proclaim without shame an anti-porn stance. Or maybe folks want to attend meet-ups without actually joining the group on this site - that's fine just give me a direct message. (But I think you can hide your memberships from your public profile if you want...)
I figure I'll create this group, and then see if there is interest. If we get a handful of people we'll communicate and find a good location and commence meetings. Perhaps once or twice a month to start. We'll see how this evolves.
FYI: NoFap.com offers online support groups and message boards that are anonymous. Definitely check it out. This guide is pretty great:

*note about being a religious group: I haven't actually scoped out any potential locations for meetings, but I'm considering Christian churches as a prime candidate for meeting spaces; as I suspect they'd be happy to provide a space to support our cause.
