Let's head to Stony Brook, Long Island and take a leisurely exploratory hike at Avalon Nature Preserve, reachable on Long Island Railroad.

***NOTE: I haven't hiked this preserve hence exploratory. Come with an open mind for adventure and flexibility for whatever the day might bring.***

**About Avalon Nature Preserve:** Step into this natural oasis filled with 140 acres of fields, forests, and wetlands. Hilltop Meadow is a perfect viewing spot as its five fields are surrounded by woodlands and accented by hedgerows. Venture along the Forest Sanctuary, as it predominantly has oak, hickory, and beech.

**GETTING THERE**: Pick up LIRR from any LIRR station such as PENN STATION, ATLANTIC TERMINAL AND JAMAICA going to STONY BROOK station then 10-min Uber ride over to the Preserve.

* **IF YOU ARE TAKING LIRR FROM GRAND CENTRAL**: LIRR train leaves at 8:35AM, **transfer at HUNTINGTON STATION at 9:58AM**, and arrive at Stony Brook station at 10:34AM. ONE-WAY OFF-PEAK ticket is $15.25
* **IF YOU ARE TAKING LIRR FROM PENN STATION**: LIRR train leaves at 8:29AM, **transfer at JAMAICA STATION at 8:57AM, another TRANSFER AT HUNTINGTON STATION at 9:58AM**, and arrive at Stony Brook station at 10:34AM. ONE-WAY OFF-PEAK ticket is $15.25
* **IF YOU ARE TAKING LIRR FROM ATLANTIC TERMINAL:** LIRR train leaves at 8:21AM, **transfer at JAMAICA STATION at 8:57AM, another TRANSFER AT HUNTINGTON STATION at 9:58AM**, and arrive at Stony Brook station at 10:34AM. ONE-WAY OFF-PEAK ticket is $15.25
* **IF YOU ARE TAKING LIRR FROM JAMAICA STATION:** LIRR train leaves at 8:57AM, **transfer at HUNTINGTON STATION at 9:58AM**, and arrive at Stony Brook station at 10:34AM. ONE-WAY OFF-PEAK ticket is $11.75

**AGENDA**: Once we all arrive at Stony Brook station, we'll either walk 1.5 miles (33 mins according to Google map) or Uber/taxi for 6-min ride to Avalon Nature Preserve.

**PACE**: **LEISURELY**, with lunch, water and snack breaks as needed; as well as taking time to savor the sights and sounds of nature, take photos, hug some trees, and most importantly, socialize with your fellow hikers, ***AND NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND. WE COME TOGETHER, WE HIKE TOGETHER AND WE FINISH HIKE TOGETHER. NO PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP if you feel the need to channel your inner Speed Demon!***

**THE IMPORTANT STUFF:**

* Dress in non-cotton layers.
* Wear appropriate shoes suitable for hiking
* Bring at least 3 liters of liquid to stay hydrated.
* Bring lunch and snacks for yourself.
* Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, head cover, etc
* Carry your stuff in a backpack.

**WHO SHOULD COME:** Only the brave and happy hikers should come. Sense of adventure and a positive attitude are a must. A smile also goes a long way. Please leave the drama and crankiness at home. **WHINERS AND COMPLAINERS PLEASE STAY HOME.**
