**let's** **head north to experience the beauty of the Hudson Valley with a LEISURELY hike up MOUNT BEACON,** which offers mountaintop views well worth all the huffin' and puffin' to get up there 😆

**Après hike** there's this **AHMAZZING** chocolate shop on Main Street in Beacon that we can head to 😂😊

**ALSO NOTE I have not done this hike hence exploratory. Come with an open mind for adventure and flexibility for whatever the day might bring**

**ABOUT MOUNT BEACON:** Yes, the trail up Mount Beacon is steep, but switchbacks keep the workout manageable. The hike actually begins on a staircase following the course of the Beacon Incline Railway, once the world’s steepest funicular. Observation platforms atop the stairs preview the treat rewarding all who reach the summit: a panoramic vista stretching from the Hudson Highlands to the Catskill Mountains. A mile away, climb 60 feet up the South Mount Beacon fire tower for a view that’s even more spectacular — on a clear day, you can see from Manhattan to Albany.

**GETTING THERE:** We'll meet at Grand Central Terminal to the take 8:50AM Metro-North to BEACON. ONE-WAY OFF-PEAK TICKET IS $17.75.

**NOTE**: You can also pick up the same train when it stops at Harlem-125th Lexington station or any station outside of Grand Central. Just check [http://as0.mta.info/mnr/schedules/sched_form.cfm](http://as0.mta.info/mnr/schedules/sched_form.cfm) for exact train times from your boarding station.

Train will arrive in Beacon by 10:26AM. It's a 2-mile uphill walk to the trailhead. SO we'll share an Uber for a 5-minute ride to the trailhead.

**AGENDA**: Once we get to the trailhead we'll pick up the Casino (Red) trail.

**TOTAL MILEAGE**: about 2 MILES if we just do the Casino red trail. More miles if we continue on to the fire tower. **Do plan on to continue to the fire tower!**

**INTENSITY: PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A MODERATE TO STRENUOUS HIKE SUITABLE FOR EXPERIENCED HIKERS AND/OR FIT BEGINNERS ONLY. Please be honest with your hiking ability when signing up.**

**DURATION**: This is an ALL DAY event.

**PACE**: Hiking pace will be **LEISURELY**, with lunch, water and snack breaks as needed; as well as taking time to savor the sights and sounds of nature, take photos, hug some trees, and most importantly, socialize with your fellow hikers, ***AND NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND. WE COME TOGETHER, WE HIKE TOGETHER AND WE FINISH HIKE TOGETHER. NO PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP if you feel the need to channel your inner Speed Demon!***

**THE IMPORTANT STUFF:**

* Dress in non-cotton layers.
* Wear appropriate shoes suitable for hiking -
* Bring at least 3 liters of liquid to stay hydrated.
* Bring lunch and snacks for yourself.
* Bring sunscreen, bug spray, head cover
* Carry your stuff in a bag pack
* Bring a sense of adventure and a positive attitude. A smile also goes a long way. Please leave the drama and crankiness at home.

**AFTER THE HIKE:** we'll have dinner and drinks in Beacon before heading home.

**WEATHER**: Rain, snow, polar vortex cancels!
