We're moving online for now!

Here's what to do before-hand (1 time):
A. Create an account on Discord

  • this is free
  • you can start by using the invitation link: https://discord.gg/TR9jNTH for the “Unnamed Association of Gamers” server
  • or you can go to the main page at https://discordapp.com/
  • [Optional] Download and install the Discord app. This is available for Windows, Mac. Linux, iOS and Android.

B. Join the “Unnamed Association of Gamers” server (on Discord)

  • If you created an account by following the invitation link, you should already be a member

C. Create an account on Board Game Arena

  • basic membership is free and allows starting a basic game and joining a premium game (as long as a premium member starts it)
  • Note: if you're unable to create an account, try again later. They are experiencing loads that are many times greater than they had ever had before
  • Join our group, The UAG. We will try to set up tables that will be restricted to members of this group.

At or just before the start of this event:

  1. Sign in to Discord
  2. Go to the Unnamed Association of Gamers server
  3. Go to the Event text channel: #toosday-games
  4. Go to the Voice channel: Lobby
  5. Enable audio if possible. If not possible let us know in the text channel
  6. Sign in to Board Game Arena

Game time!

  • meet on Discord to talk and text
  • decide on what game(s) to play on Board Game Arena (BGA)
  • split into tables (voice & text channels) on Discord
  • play the game(s) on Board Game Arena while chatting on Discord

In general, the Discord server is like a 24/7 game convention. The lobby and toosday-games text channels are like the Con bulletin board. You can ask questions, make announcements, etc. The Lobby voice channel is for general chitchat while organizing or waiting for a game (picture standing around the game library arguing about what to play). Once a game is picked, it's courteous for the group to go to a table, rather than clutter up the Lobby with their noise.
Once the game is over, the table group can return to the Lobby for more discussion and "free" the table for others. Or you can just launch into another game together if the group agrees.
If for some reason you are having difficulties with the voice chat, let us know in one of the text rooms so we can see that you are still following and/or answer questions. We don’t have much experience in trouble shooting these problems yet. We are all learning. Maybe using a separate microphone or headset/microphone will help? Or fall back on electronic duct tape, turn it off and restart.
For the moment, we are only playing games on Board Game Arena. This may change as we become more comfortable with online play. BGA has a pretty good selection of games and each game understands it’s own rules, etc. This makes it much simpler for most players, since they don’t need to know a lot about how to control the interface and the rules can pretty easily be explained. Each game specific page also gives links to a rulebook, etc.

So to summarize, act like you would in real life. Feel free to introduce yourself on the whos-who text channel and use any of the active voice or text channels to ask what's going on.
