What we’re about
The purpose of the group is to recognise, encourage and inspire black Scientists in the UK - supporting avenues for networking, career advice and professional development. Whilst our undertaking is to contribute to the endeavours of and maintain the objectivity and open-ness of scientific research, technological advancement and assimilation - it's recognised that achieving this in the UK can be limited by preconceptions and discrimination that limits ascendance, despite intellectual capability.
We'd like scientists at all levels - undergraduates, post-graduates, post-docs, application scientists and more - to use this as a meet-up group to mentor, support, constructively vent and share experiences (including challenges and achievements) and network with one another.
Events will focus on establishing and nurturing these relationships and networks - and will be primarily social (e.g. meals, drinks, events), interspersed with Open Sci events, where members are invited to share ideas, sanity check their understanding and educate one another on topics and techniques, e.g. grant applications to data analysis.
