What we’re about
"This is a group for anyone interested in WALKING. I honestly love waking up early and taking a walk along the Vallejo Waterfront. It's a great way to start your day!
Now is the time; no more excuses. Join us weekly as we take charge of our mental and physical health by taking a simple walk
What are our goals? Meet weekly and take the 3-mile walk along the Vallejo Waterfront. In the future, we will plan walks in other areas in or around Vallejo and the Bay Area.
Who should join this group? Anyone who desires to embrace the benefits of walking and meeting other like-minded people.
What are the benefits of walking?
- REDUCES STRESS (My favorite Reason). It’s the perfect way to zone out and relieve daily stress. Plus, the exercise-induced endorphins released will leave you feeling better than ever by helping to improve your mood.
- MAINTAINS A HEALTHY WEIGHT
Regular walking can help you maintain a healthy weight, burn calories, and help tone and strengthen your muscles. - LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE
Being active can help to lower blood pressure and prevent high blood pressure. This helps to reduce your risk of heart problems in the future. - INCREASES ENERGY LEVELS
You might sometimes feel like you’re too tired to get out walking, but keeping active can boost your energy and help you feel less tired. I

Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve
I’m posting my first event for this group, thanks to Rita’s invite to do so.
This will be a little more than just a walk, and a little less than a hike. Depending on the group and the pace, it should take between 1 and 2 hours. There is one hill, at the midpoint, which takes up most of the 260 feet of elevation.
Meeting time: 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 16th. We will begin hiking at 10:15 AM – please be on time.
Meeting location:
Unpaved parking lot at 167 O'Hara Ct, Vallejo, CA 94592, off of Azuar Ave. on Mare Island in Vallejo.Or, if you use it, GPS: 38.08157920294067, -122.2565170730305
According to the City of Vallejo website:
“The number of individuals and vehicles permitted to enter are limited to no more than 50 people, and 30 vehicles at one time...”
For this reason, I will limit the maximum size of the group to 25 people; it might be worth it for people to consider carpooling as the number of parking spaces is limited. We’ll start out at the end of the parking lot and begin our walk along on old paved road, passing the Mare Island Naval Cemetery before we steadily head up Mare Island Hill. Along the way we’ll have nice views of the Napa River, Carquinez Strait, and San Pablo Bay. Atop the hill there is The Spirit Ship sculpture, and 360-degree views of the water and surrounding mountains and ridges, including Mt. Tam, Mt. Diablo, Grizzly Peak, and others. After enjoying the panoramic views, we’ll have an easy walk downhill and back to our cars.
