Birding A City Oasis: Fall at Wilson Farm Park
Details
Note: This Park has two entrances. Be sure to use the Lee Road Entrance. Where Lee Road dead ends at the main park entrance, turn LEFT and follow the road all the way to where it ends at the all-abilities playground and parking lot. We will meet there. (GPS: 3GFW+C79)
“I walk here all the time! I had no idea this park had so many different birds!” We hear that almost every time we lead an outing at Wilson Farm Park. This 90-acre park is a good example of an oasis for birds in the middle of a very busy area, just a few miles down the street from King of Prussia Mall and surrounded by homes and businesses. And yet, because of its fields, pond, and woods, many birds use this park as a migratory stop-over or as their year-round residence.
Our fall outings here have become a tradition, and we hope you will join us on our 1+mile loop as we explore together. At this time of year, we will be alert for the yellow-bellied sapsuckers, white-throated sparrows and juncos newly-arrived for the season, and some of our favorite year-round residents such as the great blue herons and red-tailed and red-shouldered hawks. We may discover wood ducks, or even a late-migrating green heron again, such as one we’ve found there the past two years.
The path is wide and paved and our pace is easy, perfect for birders of all abilities and experience levels. New birders are especially welcome, as are children if accompanied by an adult. Bring binoculars if you have them. There are accessible restrooms on site.
