This is the third in a series of visits to National Parks in UK and Europe. On this occasion we plan to walk in the Cotswolds, the Wye Valley and [Brecon Beacons National Park](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brecon_Beacons_National_Park).

Our itinerary includes two nights in Gloucester and two nights in Brecon.

**What are we doing**
We need to have some flexibility to cater for prevailing weather conditions and group ability, however our plan includes some great winter walking options:

* Days 1 - Cotswolds \~ 16km, 426m ascent.
* Day 2 - Cotswolds \~ 16.5km, 371m ascent.
* Day 3 - Wye Valley \~ 11km, 300m ascent.
* Days 4 - Brecon Beacons \~ [Pen y Fan, ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pen_y_Fan)the highest peak in South Wales, 7.5km, 531m ascent. There are several route options.
* Days 5 - Brecon Beacons \~ Four waterfalls walk, 7km, 240m ascent.

You can join us for one or more days and skip any of the walks if you prefer to do something else.

**Travel arrangements**
You can make your own travel arrangements or contact Carl R if you would like to travel in our 7 seater vehicle.

**Accommodation**
You should make your own accommodation booking to suit your requirements.
Carl has booked accommodation as follows:

* Gloucester GL1 1DP (2 nights) - arrive 27th, depart 29th.
* Brecon - LD3 7AD (2 nights) - arrive 29th, depart 31st.

If you are traveling with us it will be more convenient for you to have accommodation nearby so that you are close to our pick up/drop off locations.

**The pick up/drop off locations are shown below:**
*Friday (am) -* Pick up at Reading Central railway station or Basingstoke railway station.
Saturday (am) - Pick up at Gloucester railway station or Cheltenham railway station.
Saturday (pm) - Drop at Cheltenham railway station or Gloucester railway station.
*Sunday (am) –* Pick up at Gloucester railway station.
Sunday (pm) - Drop at Brecon LD3 7DW (near the Wellington Hotel).
Monday (am) - Pick up at Brecon LD3 7DW (near the Wellington Hotel).
Monday (pm) - Drop at Brecon LD3 7DW (near the Wellington Hotel). Tuesday (am) - Pick up at Brecon LD3 7DW (near the Wellington Hotel).
Tuesday (pm) - Drop at Cardiff or Bristol or Swindon or Basingstoke or Reading.

**Costs**
Your donation towards the cost of transport in our 7-seater vehicle will be based on the actual cost of car parking charges and fuel used. If we have 5 people sharing the cost it is likely to be around £30 per person for the full trip. Cost is capped at £50 per person.

The organisers plan this holiday for the enjoyment of the participants and to raise money for charity, not for profit.

On the first day hike you attend we ask for a £5 donation for GOSH [Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children](https://www.gosh.org/).

You pay for your own accommodation direct. Pay as you go for, food, drinks, personal expenses etc.

**How do I secure a place on this trip?**

* Just sign up to this Meetup.
* We will message you to confirm availability and options.
* Book your accommodation.
* A £10 deposit is required to reserve a seat in our car. This will be deducted from your transport costs.

**Important information**

* You must wear suitable footwear and hiking clothes for the planned walks. Be prepared for winter conditions. If you are well prepared it should be a very rewarding experience.
* If you are not sure about suitable footwear or clothes or your ability to do these walks please discuss with Carl R in advance so that you can make a considered decision.
* Participants must take full responsibility for their own welfare and safety.
* You sign up for and attend our activities at your own risk.
* This Meetup group does not have insurances to cover your activity.
* Please do not attend if you do not feel confident to walk on all types of surfaces with steep inclines.
