🔥🌌👣 End-of-Year Lantern Hike & Dinner 🍽️ : Journey Through Darkness (19 km)

As the year winds down, join us for a special evening hike—a blend of adventure and reflection. Guided by candlelit lanterns, this unique experience combines the magic of hiking in the dark with the warmth of a delightful dinner at "De Beekdalhoeve Restaurant".

The cost for this hike is €11 per person, covering the candles and lanterns you can take home and contributing to organizing this experience. Special care was taken to find a route in a forested area accessible after dark, as entering forests at night can result in fines.

The journey begins at Oosterbeek train station as daylight fades. Our first stop is the "Heavenly Mountain" (Hemelse Berg) (2 km), where we’ll pause at the summit to reflect on the year that has passed.

Next, we descend to the "Origination Creek" (Oorsprongsbeek) and its peaceful mini waterfall. Here, we’ll light our candles and take a moment to consider our hopes and intentions for the coming year, carrying this light through the rest of the hike.

The trail continues along a quiet road beside the Nederrijn, bordered by forest and open plains.Passing the historic Doorwerth Castle (6 km), we may catch a glimpse of its charm under the moonlight. After an adventurous hike we arrive at "De Beekdalhoeve Restaurant" (12 km) for a cozy dinner.

Rekindling our lanterns, we’ll complete the final stretch past the Wageningse Berg and follow the Nederrijn’s Uiterwaarden to Wageningen busstation, where the hike concludes (19 km).

We'll meet at 17h at Oosterbeek train station! I kindly ask everyone to arrive on time, as we won’t be waiting for latecomers.

Restaurant break?
We’ll enjoy a delicious dinner together at De Beekdalhoeve Restaurant around 7:45 PM. For larger groups, the restaurant provides a set menu with a variety of options, ensuring there’s something for everyone. More details about the menu and pricing will be shared as the date approaches. Dinner will be paid directly at the restaurant. How to pay?
The payment for this hike is higher than usual because it includes a lantern that’s yours to keep after the event, as well as the considerable effort involved in organizing—such as scouting the trail and making the necessary arrangements. Special Notifications:

• A lantern and candles will be provided for you, which you can take home afterward.
• Consider wearing creative lights to enhance the atmosphere and improve visibility for traffic.
• Please wear reflective clothing for added safety.
• Bring a lighter to light your candle.
• We must stay together as one group at all times—for safety reasons, it’s better for handling traffic, and you definitely don’t want to face the wolves alone. (I’m joking… or not… it’s actually true!)
• Bring a torch as a backup, just in case.
• The restaurant is paid for separately, directly at the venue. More information about the menu and pricing will be shared closer to the event.

Regular Notifications:

• If your Meetup name differs from your payment account name, please include a note with your Meetup name so I can easily match them.
• To secure your spot, please make the payment within 24 hours.
• Cancellation Policy:

1. Fully refundable up to Friday, 13 December, at 23:59.
2. Cancellations between Saturday 14 December, and Friday 20 December (23:59) will receive a 50% refund (€5.50).
3. From Saturday 20 December, refunds are no longer possible.

• Bring food and/or snacks for the hike if you’d like, but don’t forget to leave some room for the restaurant!
• Bring at least 1 liter of water for drinking along the way.
• The only reason the hike could get canceled is because of bad weather (storm with strong winds).
• If you plan to bring a companion, please ensure that they are also registered for the hike.
• Latecomers, I kindly ask that you refrain from reaching out before the hike for assistance to catch up.
