OVERVIEW:

CAR CAMPING TRIP

Drive 8 miles from the locked gate on Palo Colorado Road to car camp at Pico Blanco Camp. We will work on clearing brush and fallen trees from the Jackson Camp Trail. If we finish that, we will work on the Little Sur Trail.

WORK on the Jackson Camp Trail. We will continue from where we stopped on the last trip, about a half mile up the trail, getting as far as we can. This will be a good introduction to trailwork.

THE WORK

Use hand tools and crosscut saws to clear fallen trees from the trail. Clear ceanothus, manzanita, and yerba santa from the brushy sections of the trail. Touch up tread. Come join us! There is work for all abilities. Beginner to expert. Tools and instruction provided. The work location has some poison oak but you could avoid it.

MEET: Rio Road Starbucks 07:00 P.M. This is FRIDAY NIGHT, NOT FRIDAY MORNING. We will be at the Park N Ride just east of the Starbucks.
3650 Rio Rd, Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA 93923

IMPORTANT:

We will meet at the Starbucks or the adjacent Park N Ride at 7 P.M. Friday night. Note: Starbucks closes at 7 P.M. so if you need to get coffee, please arrive early.

Once we are assembled, caravan to Palo Colorado Road and to Pico Blanco Camp. This will allow us go get a good early start for a full day of work on Saturday.

Everyone must stay together during the drive in and out from the Camp. If you are late, and the group has left, you will not be able to join this trip. The exception to this is for anyone who wishes to join us on Saturday morning. Contact leader for details. Everyone will leave together Sunday afternoon.

LOCAL WEATHER (using Salinas which more closely resembles conditions at the camp):

All of your personal gear for a backpacking trip: sleeping bag, tent, cooking system, utensil(s), food, clothing including layers and rain gear. Bring a towel, soap, and shower shoes if you want to shower Saturday night. Sturdy work clothes with long sleeved shirts and long pants; sturdy footwear. A daypack to carry your water and lunches for each day. Bring enough containers to carry a minimum of 3 liters. There is water near our work areas but we may be spending extended time on some of the fallen trees.

Please wear long pants and long sleeved shirts for protection from the brush, but think about what is the lightest, most breathable clothing you have.

ALL FOOD for 2 days/1 night - EXCEPT a spaghetti dinner will be provided Saturday night!!!

WATER Filtering is recommended.

A DAYPACK for your lunch and water for each day.

Tecnu lotion for poison oak protection if you need it. There is SOME poison oak on this trail.

Your favorite work gloves, safety glasses, loppers, hand saw and hard hat if you have them; otherwise tools and hardhats will be provided.

A tent for privacy or if you want protection from bugs. The bugs have not been too bad.
