My name is Johannes Plambeck, and I am a Senior Managing Data Scientist at Pfizer's Commercial Analytics Core Artificial Intelligence division for North America. I am also actively involved in YIMBY policies, public transit advocacy, and serve as Secretary of the Executive Committee for the Colorado Forward Party. Recently, I moved back to Southern California, where I grew up, and have been transitioning back into the region.

I manage Fortress-Gridworks, a data science and machine learning consultancy that I founded after graduate school. My consulting practice began while I was working as an economist at a commercial real estate corporation, taking on early projects with small businesses and a Texas school district. Over time, I worked as a Lead Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer at various startups in crypto finance, OEM, and healthcare, which inspired me to build my own company, providing technical services in data science and machine learning.

After six years in startups, I transitioned back into corporate America in my current role at Pfizer, which allows me to pursue consulting again. The consulting landscape has evolved with AI tools like ChatGPT, which make certain tasks easier but highlight the ongoing need for expertise in data engineering, algorithm selection, and business problem-solving. This is where Fortress-Gridworks comes in—helping small businesses and community organizations modernize their data operations with open-source tools while maintaining cost efficiency.

Currently, we are completing a project with the Greater Denver Transit and Regional Transportation District, aiming to increase ridership post-pandemic. We are committed to local transparency and social innovation, advocating for data democratization to empower communities.
I specialize in geospatial data science, machine learning, econometrics, and trade engines, with a focus on transportation planning and site-selection models. My work with Greater Denver Transit extends into migration patterns, traffic modeling, and regional economic development, with an emphasis on building resilient communities.

In my personal time, I play trombone with the Ventura College Symphony Orchestra, organize hiking and board game meetups, and am involved in Ventura County’s local pinball scene.
