Ventura Hiking 30s to 40s Meetup Group

Let's get some fresh air, exercise, and meet new people!

We will spend 1.5 hours walking around the harbor and having conversation. Then we'll head to The Boatyard Pub for dinner and drinks.

Bring: Comfortable shoes and something warm to wear. The harbor can get chilly in the evening.

To make things as simple as possible The Boatyard Pub will be both our starting and ending point. Meet outside the restaurant entrance and be ready to walk.

*****Note: We will only complete a portion of the trail for a total of 6 miles/3 hours spent hiking*****

This is a 10.4 mile point to point trail (10.4 miles there + 10.4 miles to return) that starts midway between Ventura and Ojai. We will be turning back before the end of the trail to return to the starting point. We will plan on spending a total of 3 hours hiking and will likely hike a total of 6 miles depending on how many breaks we take and what pace we go at.

The hike starts at the end of the road. Plan on parking on the side of the road. There is plenty of parking along the road. There is a parking lot in the area, but it belongs to a camp. Do not park there.

About:
Will be doing the Farr tail which is about 3.5 miles (~2 hour walk). Walk down the main path then turn right to the Farr family trail; take that for about 45 until it drops us back in the main trail for a clockwise loop.

Difficulty: moderate, about 700ft elevation gain

Idea is be at the top about 45 min before sunset when it’s gorgeous but still light outside for a serene view spanning from the Santa Monica mountains all the way to the Channel Islands. Likely to see some white tail 🐰 and hear coyotes yipping (if we’re lucky). Sunset is at 4:50pm.

Bring: jacket, it’ll get cold

Notes:

1. there’s phone signal there so call if issues
2. If heading East on Foothill rd, you can’t turn left into Harmon canyon. Will have to pass, then flip a U turn.
