🦃 November’s Game of the Month: The Last of Us: Part One 🦃
It’s finally time for our first meet-up! I couldn’t be more thankful this idea has turned into a welcoming community—and I’m pumped to dive into our first game together. Get ready to talk about The Last of Us: Part One, a dark yet beautifully crafted journey by Naughty Dog, the creators who first gave us Crash Bandicoot and then decided to, well… give us something a little heavier this time around! Directed by Neil Druckmann, this game first released in 2013, and it has since become an iconic experience in storytelling and survival.
In The Last of Us, you’ll follow Joel and Ellie as they navigate a post-apocalyptic world, battling infected threats, brutal human factions, and maybe even their own dark pasts. It’s a rich, emotional experience with a playtime of about 14 hours for the main story—though, if you’re one of those completionists who like to savor every scene and side path, it might take closer to 16.5 hours. A nice, manageable game length for our first month together!

PlayStation Plus Premium Pass: The PS5 remake of The Last of Us: Part One was added in early October—great timing for us!

And for anyone without access to the game, HBO has brought this story to life in a TV series that covers the entire plot of the first game and throws in some extra content. Video game adaptations don’t usually hit the mark, but this one’s an exception. It’s well worth a watch for all the plot details we’ll be discussing—whether you’ve beaten the game or not. But don’t worry if you haven’t played or watched; feel free to join us anyway to relax, chat, and make some new friends.
Meetup Details:
We’re gathering on Thursday, December 5th, at 7:30 PM at Beerbusters Movie Bar. This place is like a dream for the 90s kid in all of us: a cozy, Blockbuster-inspired spot with a laid-back vibe, a friendly owner, and, of course, plenty of great drinks and snacks! (If beer’s not your thing, they offer lots of other options too according to an article I found, but feel free to message the owner on Instagram just in case). It’s the perfect environment to settle in and chat about this unforgettable game. Just note that we’re meeting as a group in the main area, not a private room.
And, for an extra bit of fun while you’re playing, join our Discord! Share your thoughts in real time and connect with others who are going through the game too—just a heads up to hold off on spoilers for the first two weeks to keep it enjoyable for everyone. I’m so grateful to have all of you here and can’t wait to meet up and talk gaming!
