Kayak Nights of Light in St Augustine
Details
Join me for a Nights of Light celebration in St Augustine on Black Friday. We'll launch from the boat ramp at light house park at 3:30PM. Please arrive by 3:15 unless you need more time to get everything together so earlier. It's important that all paddles are in the water at 3:30. We'll head north on Salt Run and round the point. Then across the ICW to Castillo de San Marcos. The views from the water are spectacular. Then south along the seawall taking in the millions of lights covering the building in old St Augustine. Once at the Bridge of Lions we'll follow it's base east to the shore. If we’re on schedule, we can paddle under the bridge and check out the Nao Trinidad, a replica of Magellan’s flag ship. Then back around the point to the launch. Round trip is about six pretty easy miles. Great photo opportunities from the water and it's fun seeing all the goings-on in St A with the lights celebration but we have to be back at the launch by 6 because sunset is at 5:30. I'll have strap on lights for your paddles and running light on my boat. I suggest you also bring a small flashlight and if it's not waterproof, put it in a zip lock bag. On the return we've got to stay close together. Loading everything back up will be in the dark can be challenging so have flashlights handy and everything organized.
