Details

Spring in Florida is a special time of year, for people and also for wildlife. Birds are thinking about love more than food and they exhibit breeding plumage that generates wild colors. Their focus is on finding a mate, so it a great opportunity for us to get a close view of them while they aren't as concerned about people.

Join professional photographers Loren Fisher and explore southern Florida and make unique bird photos along with photographing the beauty of the region.

We will start and end our adventure on the East Coast in West Palm Beach. We'll travel through the Everglades and go the West Coast in Ft. Myers and then back to West Palm Beach. We will be photographing mostly in natural areas and in parks and refuges, like Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island, Big Cypress, Everglades National Park, Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge plus many special locations.

Long-time professional photographer Loren Fisher will give you personal attention and show you how to take your photography to a higher level, whether you are a beginner or experienced photographer. You will learn about light, composition and seeing angles and perspectives. We will do our traveling at mid-day, when the light isn't ideal for photography.
Since the best light of the day is early and late, we will be out shooting before sunrise (around 7:15 a.m.) and get done each day after sunset around 7:30 p.m. They will be action packed days and we will be on the go but also take the time to get the shots we want at each special location.

Where:
Starting and ending in West Palm Beach, Florida

When:
Starting Sunday, March 30, 2025 at 4 p.m. through Friday, April 4 at noon.

Who should attend:
Photographers wanting to improve their photographic skills through classroom and field instruction from a seasoned professional photographer while enjoying the beauty of Florida and access to birds in breeding plumage. You will receive feedback and pointers while shooting.

Maximum group size: 8

Equipment needed:
A digital camera (and your owners manual if you don’t know what all the buttons do) and a sturdy tripod is recommended. For bird photography, you should have a 200mm lens or longer. If you don't have a larger lens, you might consider renting one (the photos on this page were shot with a 200mm to 500mm and cropped very little). Most locations require very little walking, so don't leave gear at home. Optional equipment: remote release cable for your camera; polarizing filter; rain protection (you never know), hiking boots (we won’t be doing any serious hiking but we will be on short trails and in fields that may be uneven or wet) and whatever footwear you like on the beach.

This is a paid workshop, please don't RSVP until you register.

There will be attendees who are not members of this Meetup.
