What we’re about
Are you interested in mindfulness? Would you like to try meditation? Could your life benefit from becoming a bit more here and now? Then you are most welcome to join Wake Up Lund.
Wake Up Lund is a community for young adults (18-35 years old) practising mindfulness in Lund. We gather every week to practise mindfulness together, to meditate, and to meet other like minded people; in an effort to connect more to ourselves as well as to others. This is something that helps increase our quality of life in many regards, and it might do for you as well (examples below). You are most welcome to join one of our gatherings when you feel that you want to explore mindfulness or meditation.
You do not need any understanding nor any previous experience with either mindfulness or meditation to join, just a curiosity for meditation, mindfulness, consciousness or for improving your life.
Mindfulness
Our practise of mindfulness and meditation is inspired by the teachings of the Buddhist Zen-master, poet, and peace activist Tisch Nhat Hanh. However, mindfulness in itself is not only a Buddhist thing, it is a practise that the scientific world has embraced (due to there being a treasure trove of evidence to the positive effects of practising mindfulness). So, any young adult who wants to try out mindfulness is welcome to our events in Lund (there is no need to believe in or to practise Buddhism to join).
There are a multitude of benefits to practising mindfulness, something that the Buddhist practitioners have known for centuries. Science is catching up and has confirmed many of these benefits as well as also having discovered new benefits of doing mindfulness. Some of the benefits most experience from doing mindfulness are that:
- One's general mood will start to change, one will feel more happy
- Will experience an increased quality of life
- It reduces stress-levels
- It strengthens both the ability to learn and one's memory
- Improved emotional regulation
- Improved ability for compassion and empathy
- Reduces symptoms associated with: Depression, Anxiety, Pain, Sleep problems and more
- It even has an impact on how the neurons of the brain connect to one another, especially in regions that process sensations, emotions, thoughts. A change in the neuronal structure is also what helps these effects become long lasting.
- And many, many more things
Accessible for you
The meetups are accessible for anyone aged 18-35, whether you are brand new to meditation or have practised for a long time. Through mindfulness training anyone, no matter how experienced or inexperienced, can become more happy, more at peace and more conscious.
We are a diverse community with practitioners from many different backgrounds, inclusive of all gender identities, of different sexual orientations, of different faiths, and of different ways of life. Something that is important to also be mindful of for anyone who attends one of our gatherings.
