Walk Old Town St Charles- Christmas Traditions
Details
Meet at the Bike Shop Cafe -- 701 S Riverside Dr, St Charles, MO 63301. Notice the 700 S. Main Street / Perry Street sign on the left side of the photo. That sign is on Riverside. They open early and have a bathroom. I was just in St Charles and drove down Riverside. They have a added a lot of diagonal parking on the West side of the street (opposite the park) and on the South end of town Riverside is one way going North.
From I-70 take 5th street North. Use Ameristar Blvd to get to S. Main. On Main turn left to Boone's Lick (Schlafly Bankside) and turn right. You can either park on Riverside or the Frontier Park parking.
If this confuses you send me a request for a map and send it directly to my email [email protected]. Do not send it through Meetup. Their messaging sucks. Just don't request it at the last minute.
It gets pretty busy that is why the starting time we are starting as show
above. Allow plenty of time for traffic.
Plan on walking between around three to four miles. Don't forget to wear good walking shoes and bring water. After the walk we will have brunch at a local restaurant. Restaurants fill up early so at the beginning of the walk i'll try and get a count for those interested in brunch and see if we can find a place as we walk.
I have limited the number of attendees to 20 so if you sign up and decide not to attend make sure that you change your RSVP. This will open up spaces for those on the waiting list.
At noon the St Charles Christmas Traditions start see: https://www.discoverstcharles.com/events/christmas-traditions/
Christmas sparkles each year in historic St. Charles, Missouri during our one-of-a-kind Christmas Traditions festival. While you're making holiday plans, escape to an old-fashioned Christmas with storybook characters, Victorian Carolers, and Santas from around the world. There is no better place than Main Street during a Christmas Festival for a holiday stroll with your loved ones. Underneath a canopy of twinkling lights, stroll a while. Duck into a shop or two for a little holiday shopping. Then, take a break at one of the restaurants or wineries. And if it happens to start snowing – even better! After that you can hit the shops for some shopping.
Meetup Donation: Meetup charges me $189 every six months to have the Walking site. If you would like to donate $1 at some of the walks, it will be appreciated. Greg Kluempers
What to bring:
- WATER – THIS IS IMPORTANT ALL YEAR LONG AND ESPECIALLY IN THE WARMER MONTHS. WE WILL USUALLY BE OUT FOR AT LEAST 1 ½ HOURS AND THAT IS TOO LONG TO GO WITHOUT REPLENISHING THE LIQUIDS THAT YOU WILL BE BURNING WHILE WALKING. – I AVOID DRINKING CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES BEFORE WALKING. THE ARE A LOT OF GOOD ARTICLES ABOUT “effects of caffeine and exercise” ON THE INTERNET OR ASK YOU DOCTOR.
- Dress in layers (not sure what the weather will do). The top couple of layers should be easily unbuttoned or unzipped to allow easy ventilation. Wear a hat.
- I recommend broken in hiking shoes over Tennis shoes. A lot of the trails are over loose gravel and dirt and the treads on the hiking boots work much better.
- Snacks – EAT LIGHTLY BEFORE THE WALK AND BRING A POWER BAR OR SNACK TO MUNCH ON DURING THE WALK.
