5.7 mile walk Butterley, Swanwick Golden Valley

Details

We will be starting at Butterley (Midland) Railway Ripley. The walk will head out over fields (cows likely) around the back of the Hayes Conference Centre before turning to go towards the Swanwick Junction Station and then follow the light gauge railway through woods to Golden Valley. There we will pass some old cottages before completing a loop of Codnor Park Reservoir and heading back towards Derbyshire Police HQ and the end of the walk via Brittain Pit Farm where there still stands an old headstocks. First half on fields and muddy tracks second half mostly on canal footpath and tarmac roads. Two main roads to cross and numerous stiles. Mostly relatively flat with some steps and a VERY short steep bit. Some parking across the road from the station or in marked lay-by just up on Butterley Hill What three words speedily.skunks.fuse.

There are over 1700 members in the Walking Friends Group & we all have our own local knowledge for places to walk. If there’s anyone out there that really wouldn’t mind leading a walk for couple of hours on a Sunday please get in touch. Doesn’t matter if it goes a lilittle bit wrong, it’s just a walk, nice & chilled. Will co host along side 😊
