**3.** This walk is predominantly for those planning to go on the Wairarapa Weekend trip staying near Featherston (Nov 29th-Dec 1st), but you're also welcome to join us from Wellington as it makes for a lovely half-day trip out of town :) The weekend trip (accommodation etc) will be listed closer to the time, make sure you have your MeetUp notifications on to hear about it.

**\*\*DIFFICULTY\*\***
This walk is a mini adventure! If you're not comfortable with lowering yourself down a couple of steep slopes holding onto a rope, clambering up boulders, walking alongside big drops, and sploshing through a river (up to 1 metre deep!) lined with irregular and slippery rocks for an hour+, then this is not for you.

Not sure? If you can you answer "yes" to any of these you're probably fine:
a) I've done Patuna Chasm before
b) I have experience doing at least 1 of this group's "Moderate" walks with relative ease
c) I have a decent level of fitness including confidence in my knees and ankles, and the description above thrills me with excitement not terror :D

It is truly amazing! Visit Wairarapa's spectacular limestone chasm. A stunning walk across farmland, through the bush, chasm and the Ruakokoputuna river. See the beauty of this native bush and limestone gorge. Experience the fossils, ferns, stalactites, waterfall, eels, wildlife and native birds.

**Paying:**
The cost is **$50** per person. There is limited capacity on this trip - you will be confirmed after I have received payment. I will message you with payment details so make sure you have messaging turned on. Refunds aren't possible, but if you can't make it you can try to sell your spot. If the landowner cancels the walk because of weather conditions they will organise a refund.

**Timing:**
Our walk is booked for **9:30 am**. Those staying with the group outside Featherston will co-ordinate transport to the farm on the day. If you're joining us from Wellington you have to be at the farm by **9:10 am** to fill out H&S paper work. We will be transported from the homestead to the chasm, and picked up 3 hours later and transported back to our vehicles.

**What to wear:**
\* GRIPPY shoes or boots (ankle support is a bonus for river clambering)
\* shorts or water-resistant pants
\* at least 1 extra warm top layer (you'll be soaking by the end and may have to wait 15 mins+ for the ride back to our cars, so you'll want something cozy like a polar fleece jumper)

**What to bring:**
\* lunch, snacks, water
\* a full change of clothes to leave in your car. You will be soaking by the end!
\* dry bags to look after the gear in your pack (in case it goes in the river
\* handy first aid supplies you might need like antihistamines
\* walking poles if you can, they really help for walking in the river

**Getting there and away:**
There is no public transport. Let's try to carpool as much as possible. Allow a minimum of 90 minutes (from Central Wellington) plus the extra time needed for the safety briefing and paperwork before starting. Suggested koha for your driver is $20.
