Hi and Welcome to our group!
We are Kari and Gretchen, two friends who enjoy hiking and being outdoors. We are interested in building a local network of women from Carroll and Howard Counties who share common interests in nature, a healthy lifestyle and meeting new people.
This group is all about building comradery and a sense of community, while sharing knowledge and experiences. We are genuine and kind and we listen to each other without judgement - we hope people who join the group will share the same values.
There is no age requirement to join our meetup, however no children please. We hope to create a diverse group of people. The goal is to meet new people while getting a little exercise all while enjoying nature.
Our hikes will last about an hour and will consist of trails that are out and back or follow a loop, These are great for beginners - this is not a competitive group and hiking shoes are not required. Hiking poles are recommended if you are unsteady over small stream crossings or rocky terrain.
We will try to stay in the southern Carroll County/western Howard County area. We plan to meet 2x a month depending on group interest. Specific meet up details will be sent out the evening before the hike after approval by admin.
Always bring plenty of water, whatever you feel that you need for your hike and your awesome authentic self.
Regarding this hike: This is the switchback trail just outside McKeldin Park. It is easy to moderate level. It is a nice flat trail initially right along the water. We will be able to look down at the Rapids following the river and hear the falls. There is an option to do a loop on tall Poplar Trail; we will decide as a group to add or not. When ascending, there are some bigger rocks in the trail. The trail crosses over Park Road where there’s a bathroom. Specific meet up details will be sent out the evening before the hike after approval by admin.
Always take a common-sense approach to hiking/walking. We encourage participants to use their best judgement and err on the side of caution when participating within this group. This is an outdoor activity and mishaps may occur
