Norse Peak (Hard Snow Hike)
Details
Come out and hike to the summit of Norse Peak!
Distance: 10 miles
Elevation Gain: 3,200 ft.
Difficulty: Hard
Come out this weekend for another fun winter adventure! Norse Peak is located on the east side of Rainier, not far from the Crystal Mountain Ski Resort, which means the road never closes. While it’s a good workout, the trail is mostly not too steep and after a few miles the the views from above the treeline start to come out. From the top at over 6800 ft., you are treated to gorgeous views of Mt. Rainier and the many peaks of the Crystal Mountain area.
Be ready for winter conditions, be that cold, rain, snow, or wind! At minimum, bring microspikes, hiking poles, warm clothing, hats, gloves, and gaiters. Be ready to spend 6-8 hours out in the snow! It gets dark early, so don’t forget a headlamp, in case we get back late!
There has been a lot of fresh snow this week, so snowshoes are recommended (be sure to get ones with spikes built in). If you own an ice axe or crampons, you might want to bring them just in case. They are probably not necessary, but you can never be sure. We will go only as far as safe conditions allow.

The weather this time of year is unpredictable and plans can change suddenly. Please keep an eye on the meetup page for any updates, changes, or cancellations. If the weather deteriorates, I will try to choose an alternate hike.
Riders should give $20 to their drivers for gas. Bring a plastic bag to place your boots in after the hike. A Northwest Forest Pass or America the Beautiful Pass is required to park at the trailhead.
Important: You and yourself alone are responsible for your own safety. Please know your abilities before signing up.
