Geminid meteor shower in Cassiobury Park (December)
Details
Bring a flask and a deck chair and watch the celestial light show. Or if you have a camera with a tripod take some photographs of the night sky.
The Geminid meteor shower happens every year in winter and can be pretty spectacular. The peak display is between the 14th & 15th of December; there could be around 100 an hour.
The above photograph was taken a few years ago during the Perseid meteor shower.
Hopefully, the weather will do its part and give us clear skies, if it's cloudy then the event will be cancelled, and refunds will be given.
I will be giving tips on getting great shots of the stars.
CAMERA SETTINGS
To capture the meteorites, you would need a camera on a tripod. Ideally, the widest angle lens, ISO 800 to 3400 (when dark). Shutter speed of 15 to 20sec and your lens wide open i.e. f2.8.
Bring a torch, ideally with a red gel on top to protect your eyes night vision. (red quality street wrapper will do)
Bring something to sit on which could be a mat or fold-down chair, and wrap up warm as it will be cold.
The Metropolitan underground station is 5 - 10 min away from the park with Watford Junction 35min on foot.
We will meet at the hub at 7pm.
