Winter Birding and Maybe a Hike
Details
Want to stay active and get outdoors in the biking off season?
Join me at Powhatan State Park for Winter Birding with a Park Ranger! Plus, a hike to follow if the weather permits!
No charge or registration required for this event. However, there is a park entry fee of $5 per car.
Details:
Dec. 14, 2024. 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Take a guided walk with a ranger alongside golden meadow and frosty forest to find out who is out and about! Winter is here, and so are the winter migrants! For some species, Virginia is their warm winter retreat, while others stay here year-round. Learn about their winter survival tactics and practice identifying them by their appearance, song, behavior, and even environmental context.
The walk will be up to one mile at an easy pace on mostly flat terrain. Bring binoculars if you have them. If not, the park has a few pairs that can be borrowed. Read more on the park website.
If it's warm enough, we can take a hike by the river. Maybe lunch after, if group is interested!
What you will need:
- Hiking shoes
- Weather appropriate attire
- Water
- Snack?
- Binoculars - optional
*Attend and Hike at your own risk.
