What we’re about

Hello, and thanks for checking out Wednesday Night Screenwriters!

UPDATE 6/3: We are on hiatus due to the 'rona, and also our meeting place is Closed as well.  IF/When I hear about it's reopening, I will update here. Thanks for your patience.

Do you have a love of film, of telling a compelling story, and want to write it down?  Have an interest in Screenwriting, but not sure where to start? Or, are you currently a screenwriter, and want to get pages read with feedback? Then come and join us! We are all storytellers, focusing on the art of screenwriting, and how we can improve our craft. We run the gamut of skills from newbies to contest winners, and our stories cover all the bases: RomCom, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Action/Adventure, Thrillers, Gritty Horror.  All we ask is that you come with  pages to be read, a good attitude, an open mind, and a willingness to give/receive notes.

Also, this is a group that focus' on screenplays/teleplays.  If you are into other modes of writing, we might not be the best place for you.

MEETINGS: We meet every Wednesday night from 7pm - 9pm at the Childsplay Campus for Imagination and Wonder in Tempe.  Depending on how many people bring pages, we usually chat/catch up for a few.  Then we start reading, beginning with the person who got there first, unless someone got bumped from the previous week, so they would go first.  While none of us will win Oscars or Tony's, we read the pages out loud.  Afterwards, we give notes.  Then, on to the next script.  We end around 9pm.  And of course, more hanging out afterwards is always a possibility.

A NOTE about attendance:  Due to work/life balance, IF there is only five or less able to attend, there is a chance that we will skip that week, to keep people from driving in from far away, etc.  So keep checking back on our groups page for info!

For those who want to ATTEND:

-Bring 10 pages of your screenplay. IF it's your first time, the first ten is the best place to start! Or, bring in something that's challenging you... and challenge us!  We all use screenwriting software to format it properly, but don't be to intimidated if you are a bit off.

-There should be enough copies for: 1 for each of the characters located within the 10 pages. 1 for the narrator.

-Bring a couple extra copies (especially if only a few characters) for others to  follow along and write notes.

-Within each of the character copies, be sure to highlight the character's name to help out.

-Be ready and open to get some fun/helpful/useless notes.  We aim for constructive critiques/notes.

And of course, have fun. Be sure to check this page, and out facebook group, for any updates to schedule, etc.!
