Discover the historic township of Ethel at Rock Springs Run State Park
Details
Join us for another gentle fun, two-hour hike at Rock Springs Run State Park and learn about the long-forgotten township of Ethel that once thrived here, Major William Delk, who owned the largest pre-Civil War plantation in the area, and the amazing Anthony Frazier, the freed slave who became an Orange County Commissioner.
Along the way, we will come across a number of wild plants that are edible or have medicinal uses and we will discuss bushcraft skills that could prove invaluable in an emergency.
Important. There is a new entrance to Rock Springs so don't Google it as the directions have not been updated.
Take SR46 West, cross over the Wekiva River and take the next left onto Wekiva River Road, continue for about half a mile and you will see the entrance to Rock Springs on your right. Follow Rock Springs Run Road (it used to be called Ethel Drive) until you come to the horse barn on your right, and park on the grass in front of the restrooms.
Bring water, bug spray, sensible footwear, and whatever else you need to enjoy a fun and rewarding hike. Dogs are welcome if leashed.
