East of Eden by John Steinbeck
Details
Our long summer read is John Steinbeck's 1952 novel East of Eden, the work he considered his magnum opus. "I think everything else I have written has been, in a sense, practice for this."
Set in the rich farmland of California’s Salinas Valley, this sprawling and often brutal novel follows the intertwined destinies of two families—the Trasks and the Hamiltons. A masterpiece of the Nobel Prize winning writer's later years, East of Eden is a powerful and vastly ambitious novel that is at once a family saga and a modern retelling of the Book of Genesis.
