Jumbo Holdsworth Circuit
Details
***Please read the full description so you know how to get on this event.
It's been 4 years since I did the Jumbo Holdsworth Circuit and I'm keen to do it again.
I've already booked the huts but I have room for up to 2 more people in my Station Wagon. If we get more cars then more people can come, and/or we can share passengers so we have a more comfortable journey.
The plan is to drive up to Holdsworth Carpark on Friday after work, and then walk to Atiwhakatu Hut. On Saturday we will then head up Raingauge track to Jumbo Hut, before heading across the tops to Powell Hut where we will stay on Saturday night. Sunday morning we will head back down to the carpark and then head back to Wellington.
Costs: $10 for Atiwhakatu Hut + $30 for Powell Hut + share of the petrol costs.
What you need to do:
RSVP to the waitlist.
Then go to the DOC booking site
https://bookings.doc.govt.nz/web/
Book the following huts
06/12/2024 - Atiwhakatu Hut
07/12/2024 - Powell Hut
Once this is done let me know and I'll add you as going.
***Bookings only opened this morning so plenty of spots still available with 24 spots at Atiwhakatu Hut and 28 spots at Powell Hut. But I wouldn't take too long as all it would take is a big group and most of those spots would be gone.
For this trip you will need:
Tramping Pack
Sleeping Bag
Stove and pot (for Atiwhakatu Hut)
Sturdy footwear (preferably hiking boots).
A wind and waterproof jacket
Warm layers
high energy snacks
Lots of drinking water
Bring something for breakfast (x2), lunch (x2), and dinner (x2)
Bring extra clothing in case of wet weather.
PLB if you have one
Survival bag
Walking poles if you have them
Cards or game for the evening
A celebratory drink if you wish
First aid and personal medication.
Head torch
Hut shoes
Sunscreen
Toilet paper
Candles
