Winter Walking Event- Cairngorms- Scotland Feb 2025

Hello everyone, This event is an opportunity for you to become a confident winter hill walker. Over the 3 days I will introduce you to the skills required to safely walk in winter and we will undertake various journeys, building up your experience in the winter mountain environment. By the end of the 3 days you will have been introduced to the following essential topics
An introduction to the winter clothing and boots that are needed and how we walk, using the boot as a tool
How to use crampons, when to use them and the use of the ice axe
How to plan a mountain walk safely with regard to the weather and avalanche forecast
How to build an emergency shelter and ice axe arrest
We will meet up in Aviemore from where we will depart to the mountains every day.
The itinerary will be as follows
Day 1 - Meet at Aviemore YHA for a 6pm welcome to the course and kit check. If you require winter boots, crampons and ice axe, you will have already told me and I will have hired these items for you prior to your arrival.
Day 2 - The day will start with a morning briefing, where we will look at how to plan a safe journey, looking at the weather and avalanche forecasts and proposed route depending on the conditions. On the mountain we will look at personal movement skills, how we use the boot as a tool, crampon use and ice axe, including self belay.
Day 3 - After our morning briefing, we will go on a walking journey, building on the skills we learnt on Day 1. On this day we will also look at how to build an emergency shelter and ice ace arrest.
Day 4 - Following our morning briefing, we will aim to complete our adventure by doing a longer journey.

The price is £360 . You can Rsvp for £100. I will then send out an Invoice for £260. It will need to be paid by the end of November 2024. I recommend you take out Travel Insurance for this event.

No Accommodation or food is included in the price. I will be staying at the Aviemore hostel where we will meet every morning. There is a train station in Aviemore.
