What we’re about

Weminuche Weekend Wilderness Walkers has the goal of bringing together small groups on day hikes in the beautiful Weminuche Wilderness and South San Juan Wilderness.
I started this group to meet other outdoor enthusiasts who are interested in small group day hikes in this stunning area. I have been hiking on local trails for the past 18 years.
Group size is limited to 4 to 6 hikers as large groups are not conducive to the Wilderness experience.
All ages over 21 are welcome, however, your experienced humble organizer is over 60 years of age and maintains a pace of ~ 2.4 Mph.
All hikes will be in the Weminuche or South San Juan Wilderness, will be of 6-12 miles round trip, will start @ ~ 08:30 on Saturday and Sunday.

Hikes will vary in challenge from easy to difficult. All participants must take personal responsibility for their own safety and educating themselves on the skills and knowledge needed to be safe in the places that this group visits.

All hiking is shine only! No rain or shine. I'll try to schedule on good weather days. If the weather is turning sour I will likely cancel/postpone with a couple days notice.
Oh. No pets please. I love my dogs and I do hike with them, but not on a group hike. Just no, that won't work.

All hikers follow the Responsibility Code:
---------------------------The Hikers Responsibility Code---------------------
Hiker Responsibility Code
You are responsible for yourself, so be prepared:
1. With knowledge and gear. Become self reliant by learning about the terrain, conditions, local weather and your equipment before you start.
2. To leave your plans. Tell someone where you are going, the trails you are hiking, when you will return and your emergency plans.
3. To stay together. When you start as a group, hike as a group, end as a group. Pace your hike to the slowest person.
4. To turn back. Weather changes quickly in the mountains. Fatigue and unexpected conditions can also affect your hike. Know your limitations and when to postpone your hike. The mountains will be there another day.
5. For emergencies. Even if you are headed out for just an hour, an injury, severe weather or a wrong turn could become life threatening. Don’t assume you will be rescued; know how to rescue yourself.
6. To share the hiker code with others.
Hike Safe: It’s Your Responsibility.
(The Hiker Responsibility Code was developed and is endorsed by the White Mountain National Forest and New Hampshire Fish and Game.)
