“Dare to be Different”
presented by Kelly Walkotten
You have patiently waited for the right pose from the subject that you have been watching since the sun came up. You have traveled a great distance to be there. You have spent hours setting up a table top scene, getting everything just right. The lights have been moved and tweaked until it is just the way you want it. You make your images following all the “camera club rules,” looking for that high score. What do you do with your photograph afterwards? My solution is to make art with it! We will look at different options to make art with your own photographs and images. Kelly will have samples and ideas for you to make your own personalized artwork. Hopefully you will be inspired to “dare to be different” and make beautiful art with your own photo creations.
About Kelly: Kelly Walkotten has traveled the world photographing wildlife and nature for over 25 years. She has been a life long resident of Michigan and now reside eight months of the year in Islamorada Florida. Since making her home in the Florida Keys, she is continuously inspired by the tropical wildlife, unique scenery, and beautiful jewel blue ocean and skies. Kelly continues to travel, never without one of her cameras. So, what do you do with over 1 million images? Over the last several years, Kelly has jumped into alternative processing, using her digital images. She has taken many workshops around the country, trying to perfect her skills using Photogravure, Gilded Vellum, Ziatype, Wet Plate, Tintype, Photo Encaustic, Cyanotype, and Photo Transfers, to name a few. The results of these alternative processes have become the basis for much of the artwork she sells galleries. Kelly teaches photography and leads workshops across the country. She writes and has been published in several magazines and blogs. Kelly is active with the Art Guild of the Purple Isles, Monroe County Art In Public Places, and shows her artwork in galleries throughout the Florida Keys and Michigan.
