What we’re about

West Tokyo Badminton Club holds badminton sessions for various badminton players in both public and school gyms in Tokyo. Our intention is to bring the opportunity to play badminton in the west Tokyo area and to improve skills through sessions.

We welcome everyone no matter what your skill level is. That being said, beginners and advanced players are like oil and water: they do not mix well. It is always the best and fun to play with players with similar skill levels. We try to do this by asking preferred levels and try to match up. Here's how we play:

  • Warm up (about 30 mins)
Stretch by yourself if needed. Find a pair and practice shots. Try not to get injured!
  • Doubles games with everyone (about an 1 hour)
We give everyone random number each and shuffle by a smartphone app to match up. This is for everyone to see other player's skill levels.
  • Break time
Take a rest. Resupply water. Stay hydrated!
  • Doubles games with preferred skill levels (about an hour or so)
We divide the attendees into two ( or three) skill levels (beginners/intermediate /advanced) and ask you which group of players you want to play with.
  • Free time ( the remaining time)
We can either continue playing the doubles with preferred skill levels or play singles if requested.

The gyms we play at are mainly located in the Tama area (mostly in public gyms in Tachikawa and Hino city) or in some schools in Mitaka city. The gym location depends on the availability of the gym.

We mostly play doubles games but singles games can be played depending on the number of courts available on the event day. Each session is usually 2 to 4 hours long depending on the gym time slot.

Your own badminton racket and indoor shoes are required to join the session as most gyms do not rent out rackets nowadays. An outfit comfortable to play badminton is recommended to bring. (There is a changing room in the gyms)

Session dates and location details are posted here in the group event feed. Please join the group and see if there's a date you can join. You're required to RSVP to each event.

The fee is collected on each event (500-1000 yen per person). On the event day, you can be late or leave early but make sure to ask the organizer if any fee needs to be collected.

If you have any questions, message the organizer directly through meetup messaging system. Thanks!
