Huntington State Park Loop Trail: Pre New Year's Reflective Hike

Details

Hello! Jackie here.
Join us on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 10 a.m. for a refreshing hike as we explore the white, blue, and green loop at Huntington State Park near Redding, Connecticut. This 4.5-mile loop trail is generally considered an easy route, taking an average of 1 hour and 41 minutes to complete. Please allow extra time just in case we move at a slower pace.
The trail is mostly wooded, passing by South Pond and Huntington Pond, with some large boulders and a few gentle hills, but nothing too steep. As we approach 2025, it’s a great time to reflect on the past year and set some intentions for the new one. While goal-setting exercises are optional, everyone is welcome to participate in this reflective practice or simply enjoy the hike.
We’ll set our pace to match the slowest hiker (probably me!). Our aim is to connect with nature, boost our confidence, build fitness, and create meaningful connections.
Meeting Point: We’ll meet at 10 a.m. sharp at Collis P. Huntington State Park, 9 Dodgingtown Rd, Redding, CT 06896, and plan to head out by 10:10 a.m.
What to Bring: A wise friend once told me, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing!” So, please dress accordingly and bring the following essentials:

  • Hiking shoes
  • Tick spray/bug repellent
  • Microspikes
  • Food, snacks, and water
  • Jacket, gloves, and hat
  • Extra clothing (rain gear, extra socks)
  • Whistle
  • Tissues
  • Medical insurance card
  • Photo ID

COVID Guidelines: Please bring a mask. We don’t need to wear them outside, but it’s always good to have one on hand.
Pets: Friendly dogs on leashes are welcome! Feel free to bring your furry friend; I’ll likely bring Lucy, my joyful trail buddy who loves to lead the way.
Most Importantly: Bring your positive energy and a good attitude! We all need a chance to unwind and enjoy nature. I have one rule for hiking: "No complaining until we’re done!" By the end, I usually feel so great that there’s nothing to complain about. Let’s all try to embrace that same spirit!
