These film events are for discussion of a film from the world at large. This means that most of the films we watch will be "foreign", or in some other sense off the beaten path. All attendees should watch the film on their own sometime beforehand.

Lost Illusions is a 2021 French drama film directed by Xavier Giannoli, based on the best known of Honoré de Balzac’s Comédie humaine novels depicting early 19th century French society. The movie won Best Film plus several other awards at the César Awards that year. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a double 93%. Critics Consensus: “Lost Illusions honors its classic source material with a beautifully acted drama that untangles knotty themes with infectious energy.”

The film can be streamed from Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango, and possibly elsewhere.
