What we’re about
What's the purpose of the group?
The purpose of this group is to create a safe, educational, and supportive group where white parents and white caregivers can come together to continue educating themselves on racism. This is a structured group where we take the time to learn, reflect, share, and grow around what it means to be the parent of a child who will have a different experience from us. We accept and acknowledge that we have blind spots, but that does not control us. We take responsibility for our privilege and our ability to learn about racism, anti-racism, and dismantling systems of oppression by raising a well-loved and thoroughly seen next generation.
Who should join?
White parents (and/or caregivers) of mixed race kids who are interested in "doing the work". Come with an open mind and compassion.
As a white mom of two very young mixed race girls, I do not claim to be an expert in these fields. Quite the opposite.
I am interesting in building a community of peers who know that there is important work to be done on a daily basis inside the home with our kids. We know that it is hard and that we will make many mistakes. We are scared and also courageous. We want to show up full heartedly for our children and do as right by them as possible.
Join this group if you would like a gently structured space to hold conversations about race, parenting, anti-racism, your care giving experiences, etc.
What will you do at your events?
We will have circle discussions about our experiences, read and reflect on articles, share resources, support each other, and explore how we can enhance the power of the group.
A note about payment:
The only reason this is a paid group is to help me cover expenses to host the group on meetup.com and as an accountability tool. Research proves that folks pay more attention to the things they invest in. If for any reason you can not afford to pay for this group, please reach out to me for a discount code.
