Come join Mary and learn how to play the big drums!

This is a 4-day class which is $15 per class; $60 for the series; with the full amount to be paid on class one with cash only please

For the first class you will learn basic hand drumming techniques and drum maintenance. (Wed Oct 16th)

For the second class you will learn how to hear the rhythm in a drum circle and freestyle on your drum as a group.

(Wed Oct 30th)
For the third class you will learn to play the most common rhythm in most drum circles, a Nigerian song called Funga.
(Wed Nov 6th)

For the fourth class you will learn both parts of a song called Boulacoulenge, using two of the most commonly known passport rhythms simultaneously. (Wed Nov 20th)

Please note: You need to bring your own djembe or ashiko drum

Mary Cote Diaz has studied West African drumming since 2011 from various American teachers. She facilitated the Worcester Community Drum Circle for 3 and a half years. She used to build and sell djembes of different sizes with personalized wood burned artwork. She has participated in the Eastern Mass Rhythmn Festival since 2011. She also led a West African style drum troupe called the Djembeliyas.
