Join me for an evening walk along the community path on Blenheim Palace grounds. We will listen to wildlife calls at night and take in the atmosphere of the trees and wild areas. **Using a UV torch we will see bioluminescence emitted by some animals, plants and fungi!** Please see the link for more information.

We can sit or stand quietly and enjoy the night sounds for about 15 to 20 minutes. You are welcome to bring a thermos of tea for this part! We will walk at a leisurely pace with time to stop and listen. The distance will be about 3 kilometres.

**About Blenheim Palace**
The Woodland Trust believes that Blenheim Palace estate has the largest collection of ancient oak trees in Europe. They recorded 291 living oak trees with a girth of at least 5m. Until recently it was thought that a massive tree, known as the King Oak, with a nine metres in diameter and at least 920 years old, was the most ancient surviving tree. The ancient woodlands at Blenheim support more than 100 different protected and notable species of fauna and flora, including around 50 different types of beetle and 16 butterfly and moth species. Other wildlife recorded in the forest includes otters, water voles, ospreys, lizards, grass snakes and great crested newts. The grounds around Blenheim Palace and the lake is home to 89 bird species. Blenheim also offers a vital habitat for some of the country’s most rare and endangered bats, including the barbastelle bat which is believed to be breeding in ancient woodland on the estate.

**WHAT TO BRING** \- It is a recommended to bring normal torches as we will be walking in the dark\. Our eyes will adjust however and it is possible to walk without a torch\. Bring warm clothing\, waterproofs and a mat\. The paths are generally well maintained but sturdy footwear is recommended\.
