Join me for 10th Annual South Philly Christmas Light Hike + Tour

DESCRIPTION
Nothing gets you in the holiday spirit like dazzling and decorative displays of dreamy decorations. LOL. Join me for my annual free South Philly Christmas Light Hike and Tour. Plenty of houses and a half dozen entire blocks go all out for the holidays and leave you in awe of their creativity and commitment! From unique window displays to awesome lights to entire city blocks covered from one end to the other in holiday spirit, this should put you in a festive mood for days, if not weeks, to come!

Along our eight and quarter mile route we will also get a chance to take in some famous landmarks and sites as we stroll through the awesome streets of South Philadelphia. Hopefully the night will be clear and dry allowing us optimal viewing as we kick off the weekend before Christmas with some merriment and cheer!

NOTES | CONDITIONS

• This hike and tour will be entirely in the city - that means facing typical urban obstacles such as crosswalks and intersections, vehicular traffic, pedestrian traffic (particularly at the big light displays) and bicycle traffic, as well as broken or uneven sidewalks, streets, etc. You must pay attention as we go.

MEMBERSHIP + GUESTS

• Since I need to limit space on this I am limiting this to members who have already done events with the group and limiting guests to 2 per active member of the group. EVERYONE must be physically capable of completing the event as described
• Children 10-20 welcome, but they must be able to walk 8-9 miles.

SPEED | DISTANCE | ELEVATION

• LENGTH: 8 Miles +/- (8 is target)
• ELEVATION: 50 Feet +/- (50 is target)
• SPEED: 2.75 mph average throughout the night. We'll obviously take our time as the big spots for folks to look at and enjoy the displays as well as take photographs.

BASIC INFO

• DAY & DATE: Friday December 20th
• START TIME: 7:00PM (AND WE START ON TIME!)
• STARTING LOCATION: NE Corner of Broad Street & Oregon Avenue
• ADDRESS: 2644 S Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19145
• LENGTH: 8 Miles +/- (8 is target)
• ELEVATION: 550 Feet +/- (50 is target)
• SPEED: 2.75 mph average
• END TIME: 10:30PM (Back at Broad and Oregon)

GEAR:

• Hiking boots/shoes or sneakers
• Water
• Snacks
• Appropriate clothing - hats, rain jackets, etc. as needed
• Adult beverages encouraged!

PARKING + MEETUP SPOT

• Plenty of free parking around Marconi Plaza and on nearby streets
• PLEASE obey all posted traffic/parking signs
• I'll post a comment and a photo with a map pin once I arrive.
• DO NOT LEAVE ANY VALUABLES IN or anything visible in your car

BATHROOMS & BREAKS

• Unfortunately there aren't any bathrooms right at the start/finish
• We will have two bathroom breaks along our hike/route. Other stops - up to you to find a place and then catch up, find, and rejoin the group.

CHRISTMAS SPIRIT

• I will be providing Hot Gin Toddies and Hot Chocolate to anyone that wants one or two throughout the night. I ask only for a small dollar or two donation to cover the costs.
• I'll also be bringing and blasting XMAS tunes on a giant portable speaker.
• Feel free to bring your own beverages and snacks!

DINNER BEFORE

• For those interested, we can meet around 5:00 PM before the hike/tour for dinner nearby at a bar. You'll need to wrap up by 6:40 so that you can drive over to near the starting location (can carpool), find parking, and walk over to start.

AFTERWARDS

• If there's interest folks can head back to a nearby bar after the tour/hike for a quick drink and/or snack.

CANCELLATIONS

• I do not cancel events for inclement weather. It must be dangerous conditions to/from/during the event. If I do need to postpone/reschedule I try to do so as far in advance as possible.
• Since this is a limited space event I'm asking that if you need to drop out that you message me on Meetup or email me at [email protected] to explain. I get it - stuff happens, but it would stink to have open spots on the tour if people just decide to skip. Cancelling without a note or no-showing entirely for the event will get you removed from the group.
