Referred to as "the gloaming" by the Scots and the Gaels, the hour just after the sun has set is thought by many to be the most magical. As daylight fades, the veil seems to thin and the forest feels alive in a whole new way. The smells of earth and the promise of night rise damp and rich from root and stone. The trail falls into a hush as . . owls and night creatures begin to hoot and prowl.

Some walk labyrinths in this hour. Some light candles and reflect on the day, an offering, or a wish. Some whisper prayers. You are invited to walk silently in the woods with others who revere the ancient ones and their messages; a meditation on the gloaming spirit and the gifts of the forest and its creatures.

We will meet shortly before sunset to walk in the waning light. . . then, return to our cars and homes as the darkness falls and the park closes. Walks will be gentle, slow, and silent.

Be prepared for walking in the forest:
-Wear clothing and footwear suitable to the day's weather. (We will walk in all weather.) This hike may include slippery/muddy terrain, sturdy boots or shoes are encouraged.
-Bring a flash light if you feel you need or want one.
-Bring offerings if you like (apples, honey, mead, whiskey, bird seed, oats, or herbs).

The perfect way to wrap up a weekend or to rest your spirit before the new week. . . come to drink in the mystery and the healing quiet of the drowsing wood.
