What we’re about
We meet on a small homestead farm on the cusp of Metro West and Central MA, in a tiny little farming community. (seriously, there is a wood mill, a library, a couple very small churches, a general store, a couple little farm shops, and an apple orchard... And that is really about it... We used to have a restaurant but that is gone now. I think it was our only one too...) This town contains more chickens than residents. The crime report usually just wags it's finger at who ever's animals blocked "traffic" this week. (like we even have traffic in a town of 2500.)
What brought me to the homestead lifestyle is a long story. But this is where I ended up for reasons of an acute health condition that this was the only solution for. Soon I realized my health wasn't the only one at risk. The health of the planet is also at risk. I started to ask questions and seek answers. How can I live in ways that leave a smaller foot print? What can I do myself to opt out of the rat race? I never liked paying the pink tax either. What can I create to avoid ordering it? How can I make it more environmentally friendly beyond just not having it shipped and expending the gas? What can I make that will serve me and the planet? How can I live a more self sufficient, mindful life? It has now been 11 years I have been trying to answer these questions and more, all by myself all the time on this little farm.
All by myself, because before now I was a city girl, in countries all over EU though I originate about 45 minutes to the east of where I am now. While I was away for the better part of 10 years my friends moved on. When I returned nearly nothing was left of my old life here. Then I had to move out to the middle of nowhere to do something none of my old friends understood. For 11 years I have focused my energy on learning a new way to live. Things are pretty reliable now, which allows me to focus on trying to build a new social life.
I hope we can meet regularly either weekly or monthly, and sometimes learn new craft projects together, and other times work on our own projects, in the ambiance of the wood stove in a room that smells of warm spices. With a rustic old fashioned vibe.
This group is still forming. Which means it is a great time to get in at the ground level and help to develop a culture, schedule, and activity content, that appeal to you. The earlier you get involved the more you will be writing on the slate of who this craft circle is and will become. The hope, is to develop a sisterhood of crafters and makers who come together to learn new skills and practice old skills. To learn from each other and to grow from the relationships we build with each other. Community building is kinda my super power. Not my fault. I am only like this cuz I originate in a hippy commune. All of my earliest education was in building community.
Well hopefully there is some interest. Within crafting I like environmentalism, farm crafts and arts, and doing what I can to be environmentally friendly.
Because this craft circle meets at the private home of someone with asthma, we require everyone to provide proof of being UTD on Covid vaccination at their first meeting. Otherwise we can't let you in. Sorry. When the waste water levels are high, we insist that everyone test within 24 hours of meeting. Sorry for the inconvenience, but getting covid here would be even more inconvenient for me and my asthma and for you due to the time off life you would have to take. By maintaining this standard, we are able to make masking optional.
Other rules, include, no Karens, women trying desperately to be offended about something. Often racist. This is a craft circle. We are open to things like a little weed use for those legally able to enjoy it, or the occasional drink. We are about building each other, whatever we are making, and the world we live in up as opposed to tearing it down. You would be happier in a creepy temperance society. This may not be the right group for you.
Don't be an @$$#*!&. Talk about other people's projects and conversational subjects the way you would want yours discussed. Don't be a racist. Interesting how racism falls under both don't be a Karen and don't be a you know what. This group is open to all women of every kind. Here they will find care and women who support each other and them as well. If you can't do that, this isn't the group for you.
We are open to all political views..... But I am sorry.... Conspiracy theories are not welcome here. No one wants to listen to that.
Loving dogs is mandatory, loving cats is optional.
Thems the rules.
